St. Peter the Apostle

...invites adults and youth to co-operate in supporting the training of local clergy, religious sisters and brothers in mission territories

The Society of St.Peter the Apostle, provides you with the unique opportunity to help a seminarian to study for the priesthood. The Pontifical Societyof St.Peter the Apostle was founded in 1889 by two French women Stephanie and Jean Bigard in response to a plea from the French Bishop of Nagasaki, Japan, for help to train Japanese seminarians. and also for the purpose of praying and making offerings for the origin, sustenance and continuation of missionary vocations, from among the youth, in every single missionary church. They worked very hard indeed and their Society grew and expanded rapidly. In 1890 it received Papal approval. The members of this Society pray for more vocations to priestly and religious life in every local church adhering to the instruction of Christ." Pray to the Lord of the harvest to send labourers for his vineyard"(Mt.9:7)Prayer is the most effective means for the growth of vocations.

The first contribution made towards this fund was to the National Seminary, which became the first Papal Seminary in Asia, which trained students from India, Pakistan, Burma, Thailand and other Asian Countries including Sri Lanka.
